DNA Double Take

DNA Double Take | Embryology | Scoop.it
Your DNA and identity are not as entwined as once thought. In fact most people have multiple genomes floating around, from mutations and remnants of pregnancies or twins.
Jane Holland's insight:

Fascinating - our personal genome can vary from cell to cell.  I remember a haematology consultant talking to us as students about chimerism in leukaemia, and of course a small percentage of Down's syndrom is Mosaic.  I had thought that these were rare anomalies, but it appears that these phenomena are a lot more common than previously thought.

Embryo Images Online

Embryo Images Normal and Abnormal Mammalian Development is a tutorial
that uses scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) as the primary resource to teach
mammalian embryology.
Jane Holland's insight:

This site mainly uses mammalian SEMs and images from Langman's (with permission) to teach embryogenesis and organogenesis.

Human Embryonic Development | HHMI's BioInteractive | Embryology | Scoop.it
Human embryonic development depends on stem cells. During the course of development, cells divide, migrate, and specialize. Early in development, a group of cells called the inner cell mass (ICM) forms.

Lovely animation - simple to follow... but can be simplistic!
