Chordata Phylum
The Chordata Phylum is is one of the largest phylums in the animals Kingdom, containing over 43,000 species. An animal in the chordata phylum is one that possesses a hollow nerve chord and notochord. A notochord is a flexible rod between the nerve chord and the digestive track. This is also known as a spinal chord. The most popular subphylum, vertebrata, consists of birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals that all have backbones/spinal chords.
Chordata Nervous Systems
Animals in the Chordata Phylum tend to have very complex nervous systems. A very integral part of their nervous systems is the spinal chord or Notochord, which is present in all species in the Chordata Phylum. All of the animals have a central nervous system which sends nerve impulses from the brain through the spinal chord to various parts of the body. Where the brain and spinal chord is is contingent on class the species falls under. |
