Obama's Change Collective chooses Jackson for pilot program
Jackson is one of three cities chosen for a pilot program aimed at empowering emerging leaders.President Barack Obama's Change Collective is looking to "develop, connect and elevate emerging leaders — empowering them with the skills, tools and capacity to bring people together, bridge divides and solve problems at the community level across the country."Jackson, Chicago and Detroit were chosen for the pilot program. "Our country is changing, and I still believe there is more that unites us than divides us," Obama said in an introductory video. "And that’s because I believe in the power of community."The Change Collective plans to invest in and support civic leaders through training opportunities, leadership development and a network of mentors — both locally and nationally.According to Civic Nation, only half of adults in the U.S. consider themselves civically engaged. "The Change Collective will combat this issue by preparing the next generation of local leaders to build a more equitable, welcoming and inclusive democracy," according to a statement on the Civic Nation website.The Change Collective is looking for partners in Jackson.
