The lead singer of Green Day and driving force behind the musical-theater adaptation of the band's hit album American Idiot, is setting his sights back on the stage.

The New York Times and the Hartford Courant report that Billie Joe Armstrong, who just resumed to tour with the group after undergoing treatment for substance abuse, will write music for These Paper Bullets, a rock revision of Much Ado About Nothing, set to have its world premiere at Yale Repertory Theatre as part of its 2013-14 season.

Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Weeds) is adapting Shakespeare's play, and Jackson Gay will direct the production, set to run March 14-April 15 of next year.

Armstrongs was credited as lyricist, co-composer (with the other members of Green Day), co-librettist (with Michael Mayer) of the stage version of Idiot, which opened on Broadway in 2010. He also appeared in the show for a spell, playing the role of St. Jimmy.
