Gascoigne has had his fair share of troubles as well.

The Fish Prank

One of the funniest stories from Gazza's time at Rangers involves Ally McCoist, Gordon Durie and a pair of fish.

And McCoist has since revealed all about the resulting prank.

He told Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday: "We used to come into training every morning in collar and tie, and [Gazza] would always be in bang on 9am.

"One morning, he wasn't there and it was getting on quarter to ten.

"Next minute, the door kicks open and he comes in with a pair of waders on and a collar and tie underneath.

"And he was holding up two of the biggest trout you've ever seen!"

Both Gascoigne and McCoist were injured at the time.

So they both decided to pull a prank on Gordon Durie while the rest of the team were at training.

They took Durie's car keys and planted one of the fish in the boot of his car.

But Gascoigne didn't stop there.

McCoist added: "He finds a compartment in the back seat of this car that you wouldn't know existed.

"He throws the other fish in there, and looks at me and says: 'When he finds the first fish, he'll think that's it!'"

The 'Dentist's Chair' Celebration

The England squad enjoyed an infamous night of partying in a Hong Kong nightclub prior to Euro 96.

And Gazza received particular attention from the media after it was found out that he took part in the 'dentist's chair' drinking game.

It did not affect his performances in the tournament however.

And, while it was painful viewing for Scotland fans, he scored a spectacular goal after flicking the ball over Colin Hendry and firing it past Andy Goram.

But the celebration afterwards where Gazza lay on the ground as his team-mates squirted juice into his mouth, mimicking the 'dentist's chair' has become equally memorable.

Booking the Referee

In a game against Hibs in 1995, Gazza famously 'booked' referee Dougie Smith.

After the whistler dropped his yellow card on the pitch, Gazza picked it up and returned it to him.

But not before he jokingly 'booked' the ref first.

Unfortunately, Smith didn't see the funny side and actually booked Gazza for dissent.

The commentator on the game said: "I have to say, I think that's a little lack of humour there.

"It was a light-hearted moment and I can see no disrespect or show of dissent there.

"But Gascoigne remarkably has been booked!"

Driving a Bus

Gazza moved to Middlesbrough in 1998 where he lived with team-mate Andy Townsend.

The pair have some stories to tell from their time together but there may be none funnier than the one involving the team coach.

Townsend has previously told Sky Sports: "We had a beautiful new coach delivered to the training ground.

"The driver came into the canteen to have a cup of tea, Gazza's down the back of his pocket and got the keys to the bus.

"He gets on it and starts it up, drives it up the lane.

"Right at the end of the lane, there's a bus stop and there was two ladies waiting for a bus.

"He said 'Where you going girls? On you get!'

"He tried to pull out but unfortunately he caught the coach on a brick wall."

Gazza gave his team-mates a good laugh but received a heavy fine for the prank.

Vinnie Jones vs Paul Gascoigne

While playing for Newcastle in 1988, Gascoigne came up against football hardman Vinnie Jones in a game against Wimbledon.

Jones was made to mark Gazza during the game, and he wasn't too happy about it.

And as a result, the football world was given one of its most famous, cringe-inducing images.

The picture clearly shows Jones squeezing Gazza's private parts.

Gazza later said: "I remember after the game, I was still shaking, I was in shock.

"I couldn’t believe what had just happened, do you know what I mean?

"I didn’t want to get pushed about.

"I never ever hurt anyone, I just gave him a little shove and honestly talk about nearly losing your family allowance, it was incredible!"

Gazza's TV Burp

While Gazza was at Lazio in 1993, he was left out of an important game against Juventus.

And when he was asked about this by a reporter, he simply expressed himself by burping into the microphone.

The stunt provoked outrage in Italy with even the country's politicians berating the striker in parliament.

And according to The Independent, Gazza was even fined £9,000 by Lazio for the belch.

Gazza Plays Tennis

Gazza was part of the England squad at the 1990 World Cup.

And while he trained hard, he also liked to enjoy himself when he should have been taking it easy.

In his autobiography, Bobby Robson, who was the England boss at the tournament, spoke about the time he found Gazza playing tennis the day before they were due to play Belgium.

He said: "Tennis was another potential disaster area - yes, tennis, that most innocent of pursuits.

"'Where's Paul?' I asked one afternoon before the Belgium game as we sat in the shade.

"Shoulders shrugged. Eventually someone pointed sheepishly beyond the swimming pool to the tennis courts.

"I strode over to find Gazza playing tennis, in blistering heat, at 3.30pm, with some American guy.

"We had trained that morning, and were playing the next day."

Top of the Pops

After the World Cup in 1990, Gazza was at the top of his game.

One strange side effect of this was him releasing a reworked version of Lindisfarne's 'Fog on the Tyne'.

In the song 'Fog on the Tyne (Revisited)', Gazza raps about, among other things, eating sausage rolls.

The single was a hit and reached number two in the charts in November 1990.
