Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner will release his first solo EP next month. Due on 14 March, the collection features acoustic songs taken from Turner's soundtrack for the film Submarine.
Directed by Richard Ayoade, Submarine was a hit at the recent Sundance film festival, with the Guardian's Alexis Petridis praising its "brilliant performances" and Turner's "fantastic soundtrack". Now, Domino is to release the soundtrack, which, the label stresses, is "completely separate [from] the new Monkeys album".
Produced by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford, Turner reportedly limited himself to acoustic guitar and piano, and "his young voice [is] a good tandem to the film's teenage protagonist". However, this is not the first time Turner and Ayoade have worked together – while the film-maker is best known for appearing as Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd, he also directed two music videos for Arctic Monkeys, plus their live DVD At the Apollo.
Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys have started work on their fourth album, collaborating again with Ford. Recently, Turner's partner in the Last Shadow Puppets, said that they too may start work on another LP; their last was 2008's The Age of the Understatement.
Submarine opens in UK cinemas on 18 March.
The tracklist is as follows:
1 Stuck On the Puzzle (Intro)
2 Hiding Tonight
3 Glass in the Park
4 It's Hard to Get Around the Wind
5 Stuck On the Puzzle
6 Piledriver Waltz
