Flat Panel WiFi Antennas

What is flat panel WiFi antenna?

Tesswave provides a variety of directional WiFi panel antennas, also called flat panel WiFi antennas, as the name suggests, this type of antenna is square and flat in appearance. Our flat panel antennas feature high gain and narrow beamwidth, because the beamwidth is narrow, it can better focus energy and transmit signals in specific directions, it is an efficient and economical antenna for directional point-to-point WiFi applications. Our panel antenna is generally composed of an ABS plastic radome and an aluminum reflective plate. Inside are some carefully designed elements, which are fixed on the reflective plate. After the element is activated through wireless radio frequency technology, the element will generate a certain electromagnetic wave, and then emit electromagnetic waves through the aluminum reflector plate.

We designs and produces a variety of 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi panel antennas, which can be used in many fields such as Bluetooth, WLan, ISM, RFID, drones, hospitals, public wireless hotspots and CPE. Our antennas are perfectly compatible with all 2.4/5GHz APs, routers, WiFi amplifiers, WiFi repeaters and other devices on the market.

Understanding the antenna gain

We provide antennas with various gains according to different needs in the market, the higher the gain, the higher the efficiency of the antenna and the farther the signal can be transmitted. Generally, the higher the gain, the larger the size of the antenna, because to achieve high gain, the element inside must be large enough, but, the gain does not mean you can make it as big as you want, it has a limit value, when it reaches the limit value, even if you continue to increase the size of the antenna, the gain will not change significantly. At present, we can achieve a maximum gain of about 18-20dBi for our 2.4GHz panel antenna, and the beam width is about 10-20 degrees, and 5GHz can achieve a maximum gain of about 23dbi, with the same size, the antenna gain of 5GHz is generally higher than that of 2.4GHz, because the size of high-frequency antennas is usually smaller than the size of low-frequency antennas.

How to choose an antenna with the right gain you need? Here you need to first understand the relationship between antenna gain and beamwidth. Generally, the higher the gain of the antenna, the farther the signal reaches, but the smaller the beamwidth, the smaller the area covered by the signal in the horizontal and vertical planes. This is just like a flashlight, the narrower the beam, the farther it can shine. Therefore, antennas with higher gain are suitable for outdoor long distance point-to-point wireless applications. Although the signal transmission distance of a medium-gain or low-gain antenna is not as far as that of a high-gain antenna, the beamwidth in the horizontal and vertical planes are relatively large, so the signal coverage area is also larger, therefore, antennas with low gain are suitable for short-to-medium distance point-to-point or point-to-multipoint applications. In addition, due to the smaller beamwidth of high-gain antennas, it is more difficult to align between two points during installation, while the beamwidth of low-gain antennas are relatively large, making it easier to align between two points.

Get to know the antenna polarization

Tesswave provides antennas with various polarizations, including linear polarization like vertical polarization, horizontal polarization and ±45° dual slant X-polarization, as well as circular polarization. In wireless local area networks, vertical polarization is generally chosen, in fields such as RFID, circular polarization is generally used. We also provide multiple polarized MIMO antennas, which are multiple antenna units inside an antenna housing, and each antenna unit is an independent antenna with an independent connector. Like our dual-polarized panel antennas, they are generally V and H polarized, or ±45° polarized antennas. This multi-polarized MIMO technology can provide higher data throughput, wireless connection speed and stability. These multi-polarization MIMO antennas are not only efficient but also economical, easy to install, and does not take up space. Customers save money on purchasing two or more antennas.

Antenna installation

Our panel WiFi antennas are generally used outdoors. Our antennas are both IP66 rated and can work normally in any harsh environment. The antennas are equipped with heavy-duty mounting kit and support pole installation or mount on the wall. Allows you to adjust the angle of the antenna to achieve the best effect. The antenna equips one or more (MIMO) N-Female connectors, which are usually fixed behind the antenna (on the aluminum plate), our antennas generally need to be connected to the AP or router through jumpers before they can be used. Here we recommend using cables with relatively low loss to ensure the performance of the antenna, such as LMR240 or LMR400, which are ideal choices. If you don’t know where to buy these jumpers, you can also contact us, we can customize jumpers of any length and any connector for you.
