(SPOT.ph) The annual UP Oblation Run, held December 16 this year, had 30 members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) fraternity running in their birthday suits holding placards with messages about protecting Philippine rivers. This year’s run is in support of the Sagip Ilog Pilipinas Movement.

The fratmen ran to UP Diliman’s Palma Hall with music and beats from the UP Pep Suad drummers and Noel Cabangon. Other performers included the UP Repertory Company and the UP Kontragapi. A memorandum of agreement was also signed on the same day by the APO fraternity, as a pledge to continue supporting projects by the Sagip Ilog Pilipinas Movement.

A similar run was also staged in UP Manila where the runners surprised the audience members by appearing from behind the crowd.

Previous runs were for the condemnation of the Maguindanao massacre, HIV and AIDS awareness and climate change.  The first Oblation run was held in 1977 as a form of protest against the banning of the movie Hubad na Bayani. The run is done every December to coincide with the anniversary of the APO, and this year is the fraternity’s 86th international founding anniversary.
