      2016 Comedy List
98% 46 Reviews Tomatometer 77% 500+ Ratings Audience Score Maya DiMeo, a wife and mother, is fiercely protective of her husband, Jimmy, and their three children, Ray, Dylan, and J.J. -- who has a condition that leaves him with unique mobility and communication challenges. While Maya's mama bear instinct may be one of her most admirable qualities, it's not without its drawbacks and sometimes the injustices she sets out to make right end up being all in her head. Together, the family members work to make a new home for themselves and find the right person to come in and give J.J. a voice of his own. Audience Member Great series, had a few problems but ultimately led to me watching every episode when they came out. The story line was good and allowed insight into the world of teenager with cerebral palsy, 7/10. Its a good series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Snappy dialogue and engaging characters, but it feel contrived. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a great show. They bring light to a horrible disease in a heartfelt and funny way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An outstanding new sitcom that thoughtfully blends humor with sensitivity without being overly-emotional, and probably my top pick for new comedy this season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Taking everything you hate about family sitcoms and smothering it with comedic characters, stories worth your time and a fresh take on a family dealing with a special needs member. Speechless is a very enjoyable time for the whole family. Though what would make the series even better is if it the jokes would to learn when to take a step back and let the story do it's part. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Funniest Comedy Show I've seen in awhile! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Hank Stuever Washington Post The writers and producers of "Speechless" wisely decided to give the DIMeo family an array of eccentricities and an honest policy of saying whatever is on their minds. Rated: B Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Amber Dowling TheWrap Speechless is all but guaranteed to be the Alphabet network's next comedic hit. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Speechless is bitingly funny and is also that rare instance that can tell the story of a disabled character and his family without being morose or pitying. Oct 28, 2016 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) Its other major strength lies in its darkly wisecracking family dynamic (think Modern Family, with added scorn), with Driver and Bowie perfectly encapsulating a couple who've learned the hard way to use cynicism and humour for fuel. Mar 18, 2019 Full Review Catalina Combs Black Girl Nerds Speechless takes the risk with a topic often considered taboo and -- so far -- delivers a captivating show. Jun 27, 2018 Full Review Jade Budowski Decider ABC's knack for understanding family comedy shines brighter than ever here; between the sharp jokes, silly situations, and realistic struggles, the show knows itself well and doesn't shy away from topics that other shows are prone to mishandling.
