Lionel Messi Listens to Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, and Grupo Frontera Before Games

“Music calms my mind, helping me maintain composure and relaxation," Messi told Apple Music about his new playlist

Lionel Messi‘s first match of the 2024 MLS season is just days away — and he’s giving fans a closer look at the music he listens to before he hits the pitch. (Spoiler alert: He’s invited to the carne asada.)

On Wednesday, Apple Music shared a 60-song playlist titled “Messi: The Warm-Up” featuring some of the songs the Argentine football star listens to before games playing for Inter Miami CF, including songs by Peso Pluma, Drake, Coldplay, and J. Cole.

“For as long as I can remember, music has always played a significant role in my life, especially on match days,” Messi told Apple Music for the playlist. “Music calms my mind, helping me maintain composure and relaxation.”

The 3.5-hour playlist features a wide variety of genres, including a bunch of Latin classics such as “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, Juanes’ “A Dios Le Pido,” Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me,” and Celia Cruz’s “La Vida Es Un Carnaval.”

Seven Bad Bunny tracks also made the list: “Otra Noche en Miami,” “Perro Negro” with Feid, “Monaco,” “Un x100to” with Grupo Frontera, and Ojitos Lindos with Bomba Estéreo are included.

He’s also listening to a bunch of música Mexicana. Fuerza Régida appears three times, and six Peso Pluma songs, including “Lady Gaga” and “Tulum” made the list. (Los Tucanes de Tijuana’s “La Chona” is also featured.)

Messi’s team Inter Miami CF is set to kick off its season on Sunday against Los Angeles Galaxy in L.A, with the game set to stream on Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass. Alesso will be DJing before and during the match as part of the Galaxy’s initiative to include live music at games.

Last week, Rolling Stone also revealed the 2024 kit for Austin FC, which pays tribute to an iconic music venue from the Seventies: the Armadillo World Headquarters.
