Tony Hawk is a skating legend who has built up an impressive career for his awesome skateboard tricks and stunts.

During the 1980s and '90s, he dominated skateboarding competitions. He won 73 titles and was named as one of the top skaters every year from 1984 to 1996. He also invented dozens of moves including the ollie-to-Indy, the gymnast plant, the frontside 540-rodeo flip and the Saran wrap as part of his legendary style.

Yet the star, who isn't just known for his skating but has also been immortalised in the gaming world too, has built a huge career as well as becoming a dad to four and getting wed four times too. The legendary skater has also just welcomed a famous new addition into his family as Kurt Cobain's daughter Francis wed his son Riley Hawk.

Hawks agonising leg break that kept him from skating

As part of his epic career, Tony has suffered a few breaks and falls along the way including a severe break to his femur last year that had him out of action. The horrific leg break was so bad that he feared he may never recover.

In March last year, the 53-year-old uploaded a post to Instagram of him on crutches while at the hospital, as well as a picture of an X-ray showing his femur snapped in half.

Speaking to Esquire last year, Hawk explained: "My pelvis was the hardest one to overcome, but once I started to get on a skateboard and distribute my weight evenly, it came pretty quickly. This feels like it's a much slower gauge of my milestones. I mean, I am three and a half weeks out, I can walk without a cane and I feel very lucky in that, but I am impatient."

Hawk tied 'Celtic knot' with fourth wife

Hawk married his fourth wife Catherine Goodman in Ireland in June 2015, where he captioned a snap of the pair on their wedding day as he wrote: "Tying the Celtic knot with my best friend".

In a wedding anniversary post in 2019, Hawk praised his wife as the "quintessential co-parent," as he wrote: "Thank you for this wonderful ride; I never knew a real life could be so fun and rewarding all at once."

Tony's four children

Speaking in an interview for Vogue's "73 Questions" series in 2019, Tony shared the values he hoped to instill in his children. He said: "I hope I’ve taught them the value of perseverance, of believing in yourself and creating your own path in life,” he said. “I feel like they all have a pretty good sense of their limitations ... They have a better sense of their limitations than I do."

In 2008, he told Success that he realised he had to learn to say no to projects because being present with his kids was too important. He shared: "Being emotionally supportive to my children is most important to me. It’s not just the time together, but the way we spend that time. Sometimes, I have to say no to a good project because I value my time with my family very much."

His 'lookalike' son Riley

Tony's eldest child Riley is a dead ringer for the skateboarding star, and has even followed in his father's footsteps as a professional skateboarder.

Riley even referred to skateboarding as part of his identity during a 2017 interview with GQ, saying: "I just feel like I have to keep doing this no matter what. It’s who I am."

Whilst Riley may share the Hawk name, dad Tony told GQ that this made it harder for him to carve his own path in the skateboarding world. Tony explained: "Early on there were claims of nepotism and people saying Riley’s got it easy because I’m his father, but it was the opposite. It would have been way easier for him to go in a different direction, but everyone eventually saw that he has this super creative and out-of-the-box way of skating."

Famous daughter-in-law

Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, had wed Tony Hawk's son Riley Hawk.

The couple tied the knot earlier this month on October 7 in Los Angeles after obtaining a marriage license in September in San Diego County. The loved-up couple, who started dating back in 2021, were first linked romantically when pictures started circling of them out for dinner with his parents, Tony Hawk and Catherine Goodman.
