One of Walt Disney World’s most exhilarating rides is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unfortunately, the popular attraction has been under an extended refurbishment since February 20 of this year, with no offical end date in sight aside from a vague “summer 2023” return window. However, we’ve overheard some info from people close to the attraction on when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is likely to return!
About Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
The thrilling music of the iconic rock band Aerosmith is combined with a frenzied indoor coaster and concert-style lighting to create a head-over-heals experience that totally rocks. This roller coaster boasts three inversions and reaches 0-58 mph in 2.8 seconds… all while guests are seated in a stretch limo (make that a super-stretch)
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios closed to the public for an extended refurbishment in February. Since then, Walt Disney World has only stated that the ride’s reopening would happen sometime in Summer 2023.
However, according to workers with knowledge of the attraction, Rock’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is now set to blast its way back into Hollywood Studios on June 3rd, 2023. Keep in mind that this date could change as it has not been officially confirmed by Disney, but that’s the date workers have been given for wrapping everything up.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Rumors!
You may have heard some rumors about Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster dropping Aerosmith. Rumors have been circulating for years about the potential replacement or alteration of the popular Walt Disney World attraction. Speculation first gained traction in 2018 when Disneyland Paris confirmed their version of the coaster would be rethemed to Iron Man, leading many to wonder if a similar change was in store for the Florida attraction (due to a licencing agreement with Universal, that won’t be happening any time soon). The rumors were further fueled by a lawsuit involving Steven Tyler, Aerosmith’s lead singer, which some believed could impact the band’s relationship with Disney.
In the absence of official news from Disney, fans continue to speculate about possible reasons for the current long refurbishment. One theory suggests that the ride may swap Aerosmith with another iconic rock band, Queen. The rumor was fueled by actor Ken Marino, who appears in the coaster’s pre-show. During a recent conversation on the Office Hours Live podcast, Marino mentioned that there had been plans to replace Aerosmith with Queen. But he later clarified on Twitter, “I have no idea what they are changing it to. Some one said that to me at some point so then I said it. It was more of rumor than anything else I suppose.”
However, despite all the ongoing conjecture and unsubstantiated claims, Disney has yet to confirm any plans to alter the ride. So, for now, Aerosmith’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is not confirmed to be changing. But it sure would be very easy for Disney to make minor changes to the preshow and change the music played on the ride. Often times, rumors like this don’t happen completely in a vacuum.
We just took the photo below, which still features Aerosmith on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster attraction marquee.
We don’t think the ride is being changed just yet, but we sure do hope it will be updated at some point to keep it fresh and relevant for today’s park visitors. What sort of theme would you like to see Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster take in the future?
