JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, leader of the Tibetan Buddhist religion, recently caused a stir when a video went viral on the internet showing him asking a child to kiss him on the lips and suck his tongue in public.
The video shows a boy in a yellow shirt standing in front of the Dalai Lama, who then asked the child to come closer and gave him a hug.
They chatted for a while before the Dalai Lama held the boy's hand and pressed his lips together as if asking for a kiss.
He then kissed the boy on the lips and stuck out his tongue and audibly ask the boy to "suck his tongue."
This action drew criticism, with several media outlets calling the Dalai Lama out for "asking the child to suck his tongue."
In response, the Dalai Lama issued an apology on his official website, expressing regret for his actions and apologizing to the boy and his family, as well as the public around the world.
"His Holiness would like to apologize to the boy and his family, and his many friends around the world, for the hurt his words caused," the statement read.
The statement also explained that the Dalai Lama enjoys joking around with those around him in an "innocent and playful way," but he still regrets what happened.
