Last night the Arctic Monkeys debuted ‘The Ultracheese’, the final track on Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, the band's latest album. But that's not all. Taking to The Late Late Show stage, frontman Alex Turner also debuted his buzz cut, shocking fans (and us).

Turner is as renowned for his signature rockstar image as he is for his music (even if you're still trying to get your head around Tranquility Base Hotel). Over the years he has styled his tresses into a high quiff, a shoulder-length mod mop (rivalling even Liam Gallagher's) and a teddy boy cut, to name a few.

Now for the first time he has ditched the length completely in favour of a buzz cut, which is quickly becoming the summer's hottest 'do. As well as keeping you cool in the warmer climes, a buzz cut is hassle-free and requires little to no maintenance.

And Turner's not alone. 2018 has seen a surge in the popularity of a uniform all-over grade, with the likes of David Beckham and even Prince William getting on board. At Kenzo's Spring/Summer 2018 show cuts were buzzed and bleached, while at Lanvin the buzz cut ruled.

Here, to help you achieve the Turner buzz yourself, we spoke to barbers Grant Freedman of Johnny's Chop Shop and Charlie Isherwood of Cutter's Yard...

Who does it work for?

Grant Freedman: The buzz cut works for someone with a get up and go kind of lifestyle. It's great because it's easy to maintain, requires little styling which saves you a load of time. Saying that, it will only suit someone with the right shaped head - that means no lumps or bumps.

What do I ask for?

Charlie Isherwood: First off decide how short you want to go. If you want something more commercial, then stick to a grade above a one. For something more extreme I suggest a skin fade which will actually last longer. Keep the top one or two grades longer than what what ever you decide to go with on the sides - this will give it a sharper finish.

How do I style it?

Grant Freedman: Essentially all you need to do is dry with a towel in the morning and you're good to go.

Charlie Isherwood: The great thing about the buzz cut is that it is so easy to manage. Post-shower you just need to towel dry and go. If you want to style, invest in a boar brush. This will exfoliates the scalp and improves hair's texture. It will also put every hair in place, creating a smooth finish that a comb wouldn't.

To finish:

Grant Freedman: I'd say chuck in some Johnny's Chop Shop Wildcat Hair Clay. It has a matte finish which will give the hair you still have a more textured look.

Charlie Isherwood: If they wanted to add a tiny bit of product for texture, then I recommend a good matte clay, maybe Aveda Hair Care Styling Pure-Formance Grooming Clay.
