One of the most extraordinary reference titles ever produced is now available in paperback Since its publication in 1992, The Macmillan Visual Dictionary has been heralded as the most innovative and graphically stunning reference work of its kind. And this remarkable volume certainly merits the praise: it provides full-color visual definitions of nearly everything.

Want to know the difference between curly endive and curled kale? Curious about the distinguishing features of various judo holds and throws? Wondering what each and every feature of a Gothic cathedral is called? The answers to these and thousands of other questions are at your fingertips.

The Macmillan Visual Dictionary identifies more than 25,000 terms with more than 3,500 full-color illustrations covering 600 subjects. Ranging from Astronomy and Geography to Combat Sports and Communications, from the Vegetable and Animal Kingdoms to Human Beings and Symbols, and from Architecture and House Furniture to Maritime Transport and Energy, the book's 28 chapters provide truly exhaustive coverage of the world as we know it. A usage guide, detailed table of contents, and extensive index allow for easy referencing.

The most engaging way of learning everyday things from transportation, science, sports, clothing, farming, environment to (almost) any topic that comes to your mind. This is a must-have and fantastic book if you are someone who learns and remembers things visually!

The quality of the pages is sturdy as well as the images are colour and clear. The annotations are detailed as well. If you are a visual learner, you can spend hours at length learning without ever feeling like you're learning. A relative of mine gifted me this and I have been hooked to it ever since. Whether it is to learn something or just to relax at the end of a tiresome day, this book does it all (at least for me).

I highly recommend this book. A gift given to me back in June 2000, it has been a significant asset for me. It visually portrays the exact word that I need for the specific position on the object - non-animated or animated - and it covers every major topic be it architecture, biology, clothing, games, or specialized fields.

Its a good reference tool for those with limited imagination or for those who prefer seeing what they're trying to understand. Its very well managed honestly.

A must recommendation.

MacMillan was the first visual dictionary I had, although not this edition - I got this one later. I loved the first one and decided I wanted more visual dictionaries. I bought several more from other publishers when I saw them in used bookstores or on clearance. A book like this is fun to browse.
