It's safe to say that Zoë Kravitz is one of our ultimate beauty icons right now – who wouldn't want to nail that ultra-cool-yet-natural-yet-sexy look she has going on?

And in her most recent role as Catwoman alongside Robert Pattinson in The Batman, she had us swooning with a 2022 take on the heroine's famous feline flicks – with grungy, glossy eyeshadows and a lived-in lip (unlike the latex red pout that many associate with Catwoman, thanks to Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway).

So if you couldn't help but be distracted by Zoë's gorgeous makeup looks during The Batman, you're in luck – as GLAMOUR caught up with her personal makeup artist on the film, Stacy Wodu, to find out how to achieve the Zoë Kravitz-style cat eye and flawless skin combo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, her approach to the makeup was 'less is more', so it's pretty doable if you want to give it a whirl.

Stacy worked closely with Zoë herself, makeup ‘Mother’ Pat McGrath and award-winning makeup designer Naomi Donne to create the new Selina Kyle signature look. “It was a collaborative effort and I loved how involved Zoë was in this process,” she says. “She had a very clear vision for her character and it was captivating watching it come to life.”

Stacy even had a ‘makeup interview’ with Zoë to ensure they were the right fit together – during which she was set a beauty challenge by the star. “I was so nervous that day I'll never forget it! She came on the bus and asked for a natural beauty look – she said she wanted to ‘feel the makeup, but not see it’.

“So I just went with my gut and did what I thought would suit her; a soft taupey eye, nude lips and fresh, glowy skin. It looked as polished and real as possible. I couldn't tell if she liked it or not, as Zoë's game face is strong! But 15 minutes later I got a call to say she loved it and I had got the job.”

If you're wondering how exactly to recreate Zoë's effortless look, you're in luck. Read on…

What's the secret to Zoë's glowing and glossy skin?

"Zoë and I have the same idea when it comes to skin. Less is more. So that's what we did. She’s got great skin and I understood that raw element itself was essential in keeping her character real.

“You really have to pay attention to the nuances in undertone to make it look like nothing. I used CoverFX Powerplay concealers and Pat McGrath's Sublime Skin Fetish Highlighter in Nude and Golden. I also discovered that Zoë’s Retrouve eye serum was an excellent balm and added such a beautiful glossiness to the cheekbones and eyelids. It was more comfortable than a gloss so I changed it to that.”

What products did you use to create Zoë's signature Catwoman eye?

“It was a brown-toned cream colour base from MAC called ‘Root’ but I think it's been discontinued now – and the other product was a sample of something that Pat is cooking up. I also used the Astral Solstice shadow from Pat’s Mothership VI palette.

"The liners were a combination of MAC Liquidlast Liner – as it doesn’t budge – and Anastasia Beverley Hills Waterproof Gel Colour in black. They are both so inky and black, perfect for this look. I like to use art brushes to do liner as it gives more control and precision, and the fact I could decant both these products onto a palette was a winner for me. The glitters were from MAC in the shades Silver, Reflects Gold and Reflects Silver.”

And what about that soft, nude lip look?

“So the lip was mostly Zoë’s lip colour framed with two lip pencils – Marc Jacobs lip liner in Primrose and NARS lip liner in Hyeres. The key was to blend the pencils seamlessly into her lips and keep it soft.”

What other go-to products were in your kit on set?

“Muji skinny cotton buds, Dr Barbara Sturm lip balm and Kielhs Creme de Corps lotion.”

How would you describe Zoë's Catwoman look?

“I’d describe her look as beautifully broken. Essentially its a reflection of Selina. Selina is beautiful but broken. Traumatic things have happened to her in her past, and happen to her during the story. The makeup is a reflection of that… The makeup was meant to be effortlessly beautiful. Everyday I worked I just kept telling myself it needs to be beautifully undone so thats what I did.

“The way I achieved this was knowing where and when to stop. To stop with the highlighter, to stop with the glitter etc. Knowing where to stop was integral and key in this makeup.”
