Blackpink Singer Jennie Scores The First Top 10 Hit By A Korean Artist On One Chart

Following

Jennie has been on a winning streak on the Billboard charts that has now lasted more than half a year. The Blackpink star is still rising on a number of rankings with “One of the Girls,” her collaboration with The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp. This week, the tune lifts to a new high point on one specific tally, and as it does, she manages a feat that none of her countrymen have in the past.

“One of the Girls” soars to No. 9 on this week’s Rhythmic Airplay chart, Billboard’s ranking of the top-performing tunes at radio stations across the country that focus on rhythmic music–essentially hip-hop and R&B aimed at a wide audience. The track enters the top 10 for the first time this frame, and that’s a very special accomplishment for the singer.

Jennie is now the first South Korean musician to score a top 10 hit on the Rhythmic Airplay chart. Before this week, others had come close–and Jennie had as well–but none had been able to crack the loftiest tier on the radio ranking.

This time around, “One of the Girls” improves from No. 11 to No. 9, so it almost reached the top 10 last week. When it lifted to No. 11, Jennie’s tune became the highest-charting hit of all time on the Rhythmic Airplay, when looking only at those tracks that credit a South Korean musician.

Before “One of the Girls” arrived at her new high point, this bit of history belonged to Jung Kook. The BTS star joined The Kid Laroi and Central Cee on the single “Too Much,” which became a hit on the Rhythmic Airplay list as well. That track surged to No. 13 and stalled there, just shy of the top 10.

“One of the Girls” marks the first top 10 on this list for both Jennie and Depp. Actually, it’s their first and only placement anywhere on the 40-spot tally, but the same can’t be said for The Weeknd, who is powering the cut. He has now scored 23 top 10s, including a lucky 13 No. 1 smashes on the list.

The Weeknd released “One of the Girls” in mid-2023, and while it got off to a fairly slow start, it has since become a proper smash on a number of important Billboard rankings. The tune was written and recorded for his TV series The Idol, in which he also starred. The program was not renewed for a second season, but in the months following its cancellation, both this Jennie collaboration and “Popular” with Madonna and Playboy Carti have become smashes.
