Michael Jackson’s Biopic Sets Its Release Date

Following

A movie about Michael Jackson’s life has been in the works for years now, but things are finally starting to heat up. The biopic is about to become more “real” than ever before, and fans now know how long they’ll have to wait to see the highly-anticipated film.

The Jackson biopic, titled simply Michael, is expected to arrive in theaters on April 18, 2025. The date was set by Lionsgate, the studio behind the musical film. Principal photography for Michael is expected to begin soon, though a specific date for filming wasn’t shared.

The superstar will be played by someone close to him, as the Jackson estate, which seemingly is exerting a lot of control over the production, is making this a family affair. Jafaar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, is set to portray his own uncle in the picture.

For the moment, not too much is known about Michael. The movie will show the singer’s life’s story, but it hasn’t yet been made clear what exact details will be featured. There was so much that happened to the singer throughout his years in the spotlight–largely his entire life–that it would be impossible to put it all on the screen.

Michael is set to be helmed by celebrated director Antoine Fuqua, who was behind popular films like Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Magnificent Seven. The script was penned by John Logan, who is known for writing movies like Gladiator and The Aviator–both of which earned him Academy Award nominations.

The Jackson movie comes at a time when the singer remains incredibly popular, even more than a decade after his death. The singer maintains a near-constant presence on several Billboard charts with some of his biggest collections, like the Thriller album. He also appears on a number of competitive tallies in the fall and winter, as some of his recordings, such as “Thriller” and his Jackson 5 holiday work, have become annual wins for him.
