Necronomicon

If you're in the mood for some metal, Canadian death rockers Necronomicon are set to perform on Friday at Mesa Music Hall.

Here's a snippet from the band's bio in case you're not familiar with the band:

Necronomicon originally comes from the deep northern part of the Canadian province of Quebec, called the “Fjord of Saguenay”. The band later relocated in the city on Montreal, now well known for the quality of is metal scene, to ensure a more prosperous future for the band… Something that would’ve been impossible in their remote Nordic home region.

Since the beginning, the band always blended in mixing ambiances with extreme metal, along with atmospheric passages using narration and angelic female voices, exotic instruments and various orchestrations. Although every album has its own theme, it is also part of the grand concept of the band itself.

Their hard work and renowned growth brought them to share the stage and tour with several well established bands such as Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Morbid Angel, to name a few, as well as invitations to well renowned festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Heavy MTL (Canada), Ragnarok (Germany), the Barge to Hell metal cruise and more.

Bass player Mars "God of War" took some time from tour to give us his top five metal albums of all time:

1. Slayer - Hell Awaits (1985) : It's the most evil album I've heard and simply the best album of all time.

2. Cannibal Corpse - Gallery of Suicide (1998): It might sound weird, but that album came out exactly at the same time as the video game Soul Reaver and both are connect to me as mean and evil game and music album. Corpsegrinder became my ultimate death metal vocal and inspiration from that point.

3. Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill (1996): It's a really personal album connected to my teenage years, you know  partying, first girlfriends, high  school, and crazy stuff like that.

4. Aura Noir  - The Merciless (2004): Simply one the best thrash/black metal albums.

5. Tankard - Beast of Bourbon (2004): Best drinking album ever! Definitely one to mosh to with a drink in your hands!

Bonus.

6. Leptotrichia - The Repository (2011): It's not a very old album and it is an obscure one. In my opinion from point A to Z, this album is the definition of the perfect death metal album.

Necronomicon will open for Marduk at 6 p.m. on Friday at Mesa Music Hall, 4151 N. Mesa. Tickets are $12 at neonticket.comhttp://neonticket.com or $25 at the door.
