Pixar's new Up short Carl's Date has launched on Disney+.

The 11-minute movie recently premiered in cinemas ahead of Pixar's latest feature Elemental, and now subscribers to Disney's streaming platform can catch it at home.

Carl's Date follows the Up protagonist as he gets ready to go on his first date since the death of his wife Ellie – which was seen in the 2009 movie's tear-jerking opening scene.

The short sees a nervous Carl prepare for his date with Ms Meyers, as he is supported by loveable dog Dug – though the pooch proves of little use.

The short movie also features the late Ed Asner (who voices Carl), who recorded his dialogue shortly before his death in 2021.

As well as Carl's Date, Elemental is now available to watch on Disney+. The movie focuses on a society where beings made of elements live together, and an element made out of fire and an element made from water fall in love.

While the film didn't initially make a splash at the box office, it eventually went on to become a hit during its run, making $484.2 million worldwide and becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2023.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Pixar boss Pete Docter addressed the studio's decision to release its new movies on Disney+ during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting it has caused issues.

"It's more expensive for a family of four to go to a theater when they know they can wait and it'll come out on the platform," he told Variety.

"We're trying to make sure people realize there's a great deal you're missing by not seeing it on the big screen. In the case of Elemental, it's a beautiful spectacle, there's detail everywhere. I think you feel it more and it's a better experience.

"There's the shared experience as well, that you get to see it in a room with strangers, and there's something about the energy that comes from other people that makes the whole experience more vibrant and interesting."

Carl's Date and Elemental are both available to watch on Disney+ now.
