From the outside, the Burj Al Arab looks like a sailboat crossed with a spaceship. Located on its own small artificial island, you’ll need both a reservation number and your passport to get past the security guards at the bridge. Those lucky enough to make it inside will know that the 590-foot-high skeleton-like atrium is unforgettable, too, as is the colorful, ’90s-inspired interior. Also, according to the staff: If anything in the Burj Al Arab looks like gold, it is. Tip: The least expensive way to visit is by booking either the delightful afternoon tea or drinks at the top-floor Skyview Bar.
