Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s Daughter Just Married Tony Hawk’s Son—Here’s What We Know About Their Wedding

Congratulations are in order for the children of three major stars: visual artist Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of the late Nirvana vocalist Kurt Cobain and singer Courtney Love, and Riley Hawk, retired professional skateboarder Tony Hawk’s son, have officially tied the knot. Riley’s rep confirmed the news to People on October 24, 2023—but the couple appears to have been married for a few weeks, reports TMZ, the outlet that broke the story.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, the couple filed for their marriage license in San Diego County; their marriage certificate reveals that they were wed on October 7, 2023, in Los Angeles. Though we don’t have many details about the private pair’s nuptials, we do know who performed the ceremony: former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, who was close friends with the bride’s musician father. He is also Frances’ godfather.

The couple’s ceremony was allegedly low-key, reports E! News, which tracks for the duo; they have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye and off social media. They indirectly shared the news that they were dating just last year, when Frances returned to Instagram after a year-long hiatus. “I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health," Frances wrote in her post's caption in 2022, alongside a carousel of images. "2021 brought me more into the present moment than I've ever been, which I'm deeply grateful for."

In the carousel of images, Riley was seen holding a puppy dressed in Christmas attire. Another photograph showed Frances and Riley cuddling on a boat with Tony and Catherine Goodman, Riley’s stepmother. "I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy,” Frances concluded the post. Neither she nor Riley have made a public statement about their relationship since—and have yet to open up about their wedding (or any honeymoon plans!).

Though this is Riley’s first marriage, this marks Frances’ second. She was previously married to Isaiah Silva for just under two years after their 2014 nuptials. The couple divorced, citing irreconcilable differences, in 2016; following their separation, a tumultuous legal battle, which involved the artist's late father’s estate and one of his guitars, ensued, reports People.
