Arctic Monkeys WILL headline Glastonbury Festival on Friday night, Emily Eavis has confirmed. The Sheffield band will top the bill after concerns for Alex Turner's health.

Speaking to Zoe Ball from the site on BBC Radio 2 this morning, Emily Eavis said the gig was going ahead. “Now Arctic Monkeys, we’ve all been concerned about Alex, he’s had laryngitis,” Ball said. “And listeners have been messaging in asking will it happen? If it doesn’t happen, what’s the contingency plan? Someone has spotted a giant mirror ball on its way here.”

“That’s a very good spot,” Eavis said. “He’s definitely – they’re on,” she said, adding: “It was a little bit close there for a minute and we were thinking about whether we should have a serious back-up plan in place but no, thankfully they’re on so that is great.”

Hozier has confirmed he will be one of the surprise acts performing at Glastonbury Festival on Friday evening. The Irish singer-songwriter, full name Andrew Hozier-Byrne, said he is "thrilled" to be taking on a slot which was previously marked "to be confirmed" at 7.30pm on the Woodsies stage.

He posted on social media: "Thrilled to announce I'll be playing @glastofest again in a not-so-secret set this evening (Friday)! See you at 7.30pm, WoodSIES stage." Eavis has said watching her father Michael, the Glastonbury Festival co-founder, take to the stage himself on Thursday was a "lovely moment".

After he performed an array of classic at The Park Stage, Emily told the PA news agency: "It was brilliant, wasn't it? That was such a lovely moment." She also offered reassurance that her father was "on great form" as he recovers from an operation on his leg which meant he had to be wheeled on stage in an office chair.

Reflecting on his passion for singing, Emily added: "I love seeing him on stage. Singing has always been something that he's loved doing. He recorded an album when he was, I think, 16 or 17 years old so he's always loved singing.

"And it's really nice to see him here just to kick off the festival."
