1762 Indonesian Art Wayang Batik Tulis

Indonesian Art Wayang Batik Tulis

The Nine Punakawan were sent to earth by Batara Guru (Shiva/Allah) to earth.

These Punakawan take on ugly forms as a way to hide their celestial identities.

This artwork depicts a scene of some argument amongst them, after which they split into two groups, one assisting Pandavaa and the other assisting Kauravas.

The depiction of the clouds (mega mendung) is typical of the batiks of Cirebon in Java, Indonesia.

Note the detailed borders in this batik!
