The Hwarangs of Seorabeol— Queen Seon Deok

In Queen Seon Deok, there were 10 Elite Seorabeol Hwarangs (actually if we count there are more.

1.日月星徒 led by Bo Jong

Bo Jong is the son of Seol Won and Mishil. He is one of the most talented and skilled Hwarang, on par with Yushin. He has never lost the BiJae (duel) except when he met his half-brother Bidam. One of the four Hwarangs who made it to the Bijae finals.

2.青龍翼徒 led by Seok Pum

Close friend of Bojong. A loyal follower of Mishil who owes his life to her. He also idolises Wonsanghwa Chilsuk and with him, revolts against Deokman and was killed by Alcheon.

3.梨花征徒led by Deok Chung

Initiallly on Mishil’s faction, but after seeing Mishil using underhanded methods to stage a military coup, he had doubts. When Yushin was trying to escape during the coup, he pretended not to see him and even hinted that the Western gates of the palace were unguarded.

4.冬柏梅徒 led by Baek Eui

From Mishil’s faction. Hangs out often with Deok Chung. His weapon stands out as he is the only one to wield a GuanDao关刀 while most Hwarangs use swords. Eventually goes over to Deokman’s side with Deok Chung and fought alongside Yushin during the war against Baekje.

5. 飞天之徒 led by Alcheon

Loyal supporter of Princess Deokman and close friend of Yushin. He became the chief of the Royal Palace Guards and also Deokman’s personal bodyguard. He was one of the four Hwarangs who made it to the Bijae finals.

6.玄武信徒 led by Pil-dan

Son of Lord Jujin, whose father was originally Mishil’s faction but decided to help Deokman in the end. Got nervous as well when Mishil started using underhanded tactics.

7.护国仙徒 led by Im Jong

He is close with Lord YongChun and EulJae. Carries out many errands with Alcheon. Doesnt really oppose Mishil but in the scene where the two factions of Hwarangs face off when the Bijae was announced, he was standing with Yushin and Alcheon. He hails from the same guild as Munno and inherits the same fighting style as Bidam (they can be considered 師兄弟 in that sense) but his sword is not as fast as Bidam (everyone says so) Bidam annoyed him during Bijae by cracking too many jokes (sigh Bidam control your mouth even Im Jong is annoyed).

8. 白虎飞徒 led by Daenambo

Son of Misaeng and nephew of Mishil. Cousins with Bojong and Bidam. Very innocent person, who just carries out commands given by his father. Fails most of his missions, especially on an assassination attempt on Deokman. He ends up killing Cheonmyeong instead. (fail whale) He ends up being shot by Bidam’s arrows. There is a scene where Dae Nam Bo was amazed with Kim Chunchu’s luck at gambling, and he didnt know that it was his father who set it all up. Though Bidam and Kim Chunchu could see through it immediately.

9. 云上人徒 led by Seon Yeol

Close with Lord Sejong. Has doubts when Mishil employed underhanded tactics. Nevertheless remained on close terms with Bojong.

10.天市垣徒 led by Wang Yon

Sides with Deokman eventually. Hangs out often with Pil-dan and Seon Yeol.

11. 龙华香徒 led by Yushin

Extremely loyal and sincere and possesses exceptional swordsmanship. Loyal supporter of Deokman and close buddy of Alcheon. He was the leader of the guild Deokman was in when she decided to become a nangdo in order to find Munno. He used to give his guild harsh training and made Deokman run with heavy bags around her legs for being the last to return from the running exercise. He was one of the four Hwarangs in the Bijae finals and eventually won the Bijae to become Pungwolju, and slowly rose the ranks to become General. Adopted brother is Wolya and he is a descendent of a Gaya king, literally making him a prince. His mother is Deokman’s aunt, making him Deokman’s cousin too.

12. 龙华香徒 led by Wolya

A prince of Gaya, and a leader of an underground organisation advocating for the reformation of Gaya. Took over Yushin’s guild after Yushin became Pungwolju. Adopted by Yushin’s family and became brothers with Yushin, hence allowing him access to Hwarang ranks.

13. 无名之徒 led by Bidam

Illegitimate son of King Jinji and Lady Mishil, Bojong and Yong Chun’s half-brother, cousin to the King (technically uncle of Deokman) and goodness knows what. the relations in this drama are all screwed up. Despite being Mishil’s son, he is on Deokman’s faction. He was raised by Lord Munno, who aspired him to be the king who would lead the campaign for the unification of the Three Kingdoms. That is, before he found out the true nature of Bidam’s character in an incident where Bidam assassinated a large group of people when he was just a young boy. Lord Munno, who initially was like a father figure, distanced himself from Bidam ever since, treating him with detachment. This episode in Bidam’s life is the key event that forever haunts him. Bidam, often said in the drama itself, is one daunting specimen. He inherits Munno’s fighting skills, Jinji’s playful nature and Mishil’s intelligence, wit, cunning and ruthlessness. He is wild and unpredictable. Deokman was matched only by Mishil and on occasions, him. He could predict Mishil’s every move as both mother and son thought in uncannily similar ways. Bidam is actually quite simple minded, in a way. He wants acceptance, and he will do anything to achieve that. His desire, ultimately, is to be accepted by Deokman. He can be childlike. Any sign of trust from Deokman, and he’s over the moon. Out of the Hwarangs, he is the most complex and the darkest of them, to the extent that even Mishil was shocked.

He is one of the four Hwarangs who made it to the Bijae finals.
