Papuma is the Most Charming Beach of East Java

SURYA.co.id - East Java has lots of exotic beaches. Papuma beach in Jember is one of them. The visitors would be amazed by the beauty of the beach. Papuma beach lies in Wuluhan, 45 kilometers from Jember city center.

It takes 45 minutes from Jember. When you get into the beach area, you need to be extra cautious because the road is not in a good condition. You need to be careful on rainy season because the road is slippery.

Papuma beach is well-known as Tanjung Papuma beach because it is located indented to the sea and called as Tanjung (headland in English).

As we know that headline is a small land which indented to the sea, while ‘Papuma’ came from ‘Pasir Putih malikan’ (malikan white sand in English) acronym. Malikan is a name that was given by local people when they turn this beach into a tourist attraction.

Even though the road access hasn’t been repaired, but do not worry if you are hungry because there are a lot of food stalls on this beach.

The price is not too expensive, but you better ask about the price before buying any food there. If the price is expensive for you, you may go to another food stall. The taste is pretty good as well.

People started to know Jember for the Jember Fashion Carnival, but many of them still did not know that it has unique charm such as Papuma beach.

Jember was a home for tobacco and coffee farmer, but it has evolved to be a nice and complete city. The streets in Jember are very accessible for becak (Indonesian pedicab) and car.

The city park was tidied up and the pavement was cleaned as well. The access from Jember to Surabaya and another big city was improved.

As a city which becomes an entrance and out gate to many cities in East Java, Jember is improving its tourist attraction. It is proven from the condition of Papuma Beach. 9 years ago, the access to Papuma beach was difficult. Who knows that infrastructure problem in this town has been improved even if the access to Papuma needs to be repaired.

Nevertheless, you will be satisfied when you are in Papuma beach. There are a lot of big stones and charming scenery. The waves are pretty big and a little dangerous to snorkel in this beach. It is the type of Java south sea. One thing that you need to remember is that beaches in this area are very stunning.

Before you get into the beach area, you will ride through teak forests. After you get to the entrance gate, you will see many palm trees, sandpaper tree, and other small trees. It is said that these forests have a lot of tropical floras and faunas as well as many kinds of birds and apes.

After riding over Malikan forest, you will see a view of white sand. There are many boats along the white sand. If you want to see the fishermen ‘park’ their boat, come and see them at 11 AM – 1 PM. You can buy their fish at the beach or you might grill the fish at the food stall.

There are lots of corals which embellish the beach. You can see them when the sea is receding. There are 7 huge coral islands in Papuma. Each island has a different name, it is taken from Wayang (Java puppet) character such as Bata Guru island, Kresna island, Narada island, Nusa Barong island, and Kajang island.
