When was the Third Kazekage born and when did he die?

I’ll preface this by saying this is all conjecture. There’s a handful of statements about the Third Kazekage in the whole series. I’m just taking this question and running with it based on what would fit into my existing knowledge of the series.

The only thing I would feel very confident in saying is that Sasori kidnapped and killed the Third Kazekage when Sasori was about 16, because Temari was born shortly after that, and it’s strongly implied Rasa was already Kazekage when she was born. Rasa would’ve been about 24 then. Chiyo also states that this event happened “more than ten years ago” in Chapter 267, so positing that it occurred 19 years prior to Part II is not too strange. It also aligns quite nicely with the progression of the Third Shinobi War (see Year 62 of this timeline). 

The other guesses I would make would be that he was the Kazekage when Sasori’s parents were killed. (Rasa would’ve been 13.) It puts more motive into his choice of turning the Third Kazekage into a human puppet. 

So since Suna’s position of Kazekage seems more or less hereditary (as discussed in Gaara Hiden), I would say that the Third Kazekage had to be some kind of relation of Rasa, especially due to their similar jutsu. But he doesn’t look old enough to have been Rasa’s father, imo. Minor characters in their 40′s tend to have more lines on their faces in Kishimoto’s style, like Inoichi, Shikaku in Part II, or Yamato in Naruto Gaiden. So if not father, the most likely option in terms of line of succession seems uncle. 

If the Third Kazekage was from the Kazekage lineage, you could suppose that he was born around the time that the second Kazekage took power, in the first five years or so (see Year 23 of this timeline). He could be a second child so as to double up on possible heirs. So he would be born somewhere around the same time as the Sannin or Maito Dai. Let’s say the same year as Dai to put him on the younger end of the scale (Year 27). That would make the Third Kazekage 35 when he died and 24 when Sasori’s parents were killed.
