SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diegans will lose an hour of sleep Sunday, thanks to the start of daylight saving time.

Clocks spring forward an hour on Sunday at 2 a.m., which means longer days and later sunsets.

The sunset in San Diego on Sunday is expected to start at 6:54 p.m., according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Civil twilight, which is when the geometric center of the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon, ends around 7:17 p.m. This is when the brightest stars and planets can be seen, unless fog or other conditions are present. Artificial lighting is not typically needed during this time.

While daylight saving time means people get to enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening, it also means the morning stays dark for about an extra hour.

Thanks to time being set forward an hour, sunrise is set to take place at 7:02 a.m. Sunday instead of 6:02 a.m.

Daylight saving time ends Nov. 3.
