GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A new state-of-the-art medical center broke ground in Green Bay.

BayCare celebrated the beginning of its new Orthopedic & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic Thursday.

The new 137,000-square-foot medical complex will be built across the street from the BayCare Clinic corporate office on Kepler Drive.

The facility will include BayCare's orthopedic practice, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, Aurora BayCare Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, rooftop track, CrossFit of Green Bay, a coffee shop and multiple patios.

Since 2008, the Aurora BayCare facility has been Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic’s primary practice location. Once the new facility is ready, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic will consolidate its Green Bay operations to one location.

According to BayCare Clinic orthopedic practice administrator, Bill Kingston, the new facility will be a patient-focused environment with new X-ray technology and cutting-edge equipment. He also says there's plenty of space for self-rooming.

“What self-rooming is is the patients can directly just go into the rooms, they don’t have to check-in at the front desk anymore, which will create a lot of efficiency for not only us but the patients because a number one complaint is wait times," Kingston said.

When the new Kepler Drive facility opens, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic will have nine locations including Manitowoc, Kaukauna, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Shawano, Denmark, New Franken, and Oconto.

Construction is expected to be complete by late fall of 2022.
