TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Golkar Party politician Indra J. Piliang said Agung Laksono, the party’s recently dismissed deputy chair, would be running for the chairmanship of the Golkar Party for the next period. “Agung Laksono is ready,” he told Tempo on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Indra said Agung was an ideal figure to become the party’s top man as he had been popular among Golkar cadres and involved in the government for the past decade. “His track record is convincing,” he said.
Indra added Agung also was also equipped with sound political communications skills. “His personal mission is to serve the party,” he said. Indra, however, said there had not been any movement yet within the party to back Agung. “For the time being, just communication.”
Indra said Agung had conveyed his intent on becoming the party’s chief to Golkar chapters in multiple areas, including Yogyakarta, Garut, and Bogor. “Just to announce his intent, not to gather support,” Indra said.
