Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills, located in Bohol, Philippines, are a natural wonder! These hills are a collection of cone-shaped mounds that are usually covered in green grass but turn a brown color during the dry season (hence the name).

Hours

You can visit these hills anytime but we suggest going earlier in the day to avoid the crowd and the heat (there are stairs you need to walk up to get to the viewing area). Also, if you plan to fly your drone, you will have to be there before 8AM.

Admission

The entrance fee to the Chocolate Hills is 50 pesos per person.

Directions

The Chocolate Hills was the first location we visited when getting to Bohol. Right after the ferry, you will find a lot of tour companies just waiting at the exit. We went with one tour (“Countryside Tour”) that came with a private driver who took us to 3 different locations.

Restrooms

There are restrooms near the entrance that you can use. Make sure to bring toilet paper!

Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills was not really that brown when we visited since it wasn’t the dry season yet. But we still saw some parts brown and used our imagination! There are a lot of steps you need to take to get up to the viewing platform and it can get steep at some parts.

Once you get to the top, there are 2 areas you can take pictures at. One is at this sign that says I love Chocolate Hills.

The other is at this railing. Depending on what time you visit, there may be a lot of people so you will have to wait your turn for a photo. We didn’t have to wait too long and managed to get some nice shots with the chocolate hills in the background.

Be careful if you sit on the railing though and pay attention to the warning signs.

Visiting this natural wonder was relatively easy to get to, stress-free and very rewarding. We can only imagine what the view looked like when the mounds are fully brown!
