Purple and Orange Layers at Sunset

Autumn and Winter skies are more colorful, and this is Exhibit A. Sure, it might be painfully cold going out to photograph, and it might be difficult to find a spot to do it as the roads in the high-altitude areas get closed down. But sometimes it works out and I come away with a new favorite photograph like this one. I know the oak trees emitting volatile organic compounds create the haze that makes the blue ridge blue. But I am unsure how or why they are sometimes purple for a few minutes or seconds during sunrise or sunset. I do not understand it yet, but I am grateful for it!
