See Which Roller Coasters BEAT Disney in Top 10 Best New Ride Ranking

Disney World has some fun roller coasters, with some being more “extreme” than others. (Looking at you, Barnstormer!)

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Whether you enjoy the classics like Space Mountain or love the theming of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or enjoy how high-tech Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is, Disney knows how to make a thrilling roller coaster. However, a NEW Disney coaster opened in 2023, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and according to one list, it isn’t the best new coaster in the U.S.

USA Today brought together a panel of roller coaster experts to pick their top ten new roller coasters in the U.S. That panel picked their favorites, and then readers voted for their top picks. Although TRON Lightcycle / Run MADE the list, nine other roller coasters beat TRON in the ranking.

We got to ride Tron with Jeff Vahle!

Here are the top 10 new roller coasters in the U.S., according to USA Today and its readers:

  1. Primordial at Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington, Utah — this coaster includes a shooting game, sudden drops, and speeds of up to 40mph
  2. Wildcat’s Revenge at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania — it’s got an 82-degree drop plus multiple inversions
  3. Pipeline: The Surf Coaster at Seaworld Orlando in Orlando, Florida — a coaster that mimics surfing with top speeds of 60mph and reaching heights of up to 110 feet
  4. ArieForce One at Fun Spot America Atlanta in Fayetteville, Georgia — reaches speeds of up to 64mph and 16 airtime moments
  5. Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri — has 2,428 feet of steel and wooden track with speeds that get up to 45mph
  6. Whispering Pines Haunted Hotel in Saco, Maine — incorporates animatronics, strobe lighting, and fog to create a coaster inside a haunted hotel
  7. Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee — has 3,990 feet of track and hits speeds of up to 48mph
  8. Spinvasion at Kennywood in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania — a roller coaster that takes you through a mock battle against aliens with speeds of up to 30mph
  9. Serengeti Flyer at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida — reaches a height of up to 135 feet with negative G’s and speeds up to 68mph
  10. Tron Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom in Disney World in Orlando, Florida — takes you into the Grid from the Tron movies on more than 3,000 feet of track
It is SO cool at night

So Tron Lightcycle / Run is still rated within the top 10 new coasters of the year, and it’s still popular enough in Disney World that it uses a virtual queue system (and is available on Genie+ as a paid Individual Lightning Lane selection), so Disney World visitors are still enjoying it!
